The nice thing with it being all-included in Opera though is that you just take your profile directory (or even just opera.ini for a lot of it) with you, and you instantly have a brand new Opera install on a new PC fully configured exactly as you like it. With Firefox all the addons seem to have their own configuration, for instance NoScript’s whitelist, that’s another file you’ve got to remember to export and then take to the new PC. I have a bookmark list that allows me to quickly install all the Firefox addons I like but they are always unconfigured. I know you can do “Portable Firefox” but that’s not always appropriate … does anyone know an easy way to configure all one’s addons, is there an addon to keep track of the addons!!!

Great research!

I’m a Firefox user myself, but these
but I’ve been tempted to try out Opera for a while.

btw, your comment form is broken under Firefox.. makes it hard to post a comment.

Ian - yea, Firefox (and Thunderbird) are annoying if you want to transfer files from one installation to the next. Makes reformatting a pain. You can copy the whole %appdata% folder of Firefox to make it a similar installation.

Engtech - can you please explain what’s wrong with this in firefox? It’s working fine here. Maybe NoScript is blocking something?

Ian check out FEBE, I understand the pains of trying to backup firefox and is a plus for opera, I might get round to trying it again, but i like the way I have my firefox setup.

With FEBE you can backup an entire profile or single extensions.

One difference for point 2.. in Opera you can have the script load before or after page load.. (giving you the opportunity to overload page functions..) while in GreaseMonkey the script is always loaded afterwards..

I have my pc hooked to my tv and I have found the Fit to Width option in Opera very useful when surfing the net on my tv (and watching online videos and such). I have been looking for an add-on for Firefox with this same functionality but have been unsuccessful. Anyone know of a plug-in like this?

Good article, I will now try mouse gestures, all-in-one sidebar and the Scrapbook add-ons in Firefox.

Thanks!

Opera is the best.

Get Firefox to work like Opera | Guthardt Blog says, December 11th, 2009

[…] I immediately miss many of Opera’s  features. But there are add-ons! You can find many blog posts out there with lists of add-ons that are supposed to make Firefox work like Opera – they were […]

..just those good features are hidden behind obscure settings, just compare simple Greasemonkey installation with opera analogue:

As a long-time Opera user I have found version 10 to almost be a different browser due to the huge change in layout. I dislike it so much that I have moved to using Firefox 3.6x and I doubt I will be using Opera much in the future.

This page has been a GREAT help to me since many of the features I relied on in Opera are available in FF with add-on’s.

On a sad note, it seems that the ‘Formfiller’ add-on has been abandoned by it’s creator and won’t work in current versions of FF. I haven’t found a replacement for it yet.

Opera sucks it’s way behind the times. Firefox has so much feature to it with the addons I can duplicate everything Opera has and more with Firefox. Firefox is faster too and outperforms Opera.

Switched from Opera 10 to Firefox and haven’t looked back.
